In the winter of 2013, I unfortunately had a life changing experience. My hair got fried and fell out due to a perm/ keratin treatment applied on my bleached blonde hair by a hair stylist. Total disaster. In the end I was left with fried hair that had to be cut off. My Hair has always been what made me feel confident. If my hair wasn't done I would not be leaving the house. So to have that gone in an instant was so traumatizing. It felt like the end of the world. But hindsight truly is 20/20 because it was the best thing that happened to me. Now we are in year 2022 and I love my hair so much and pour into it love and acceptance. After much trial and error, I now have products that my hair absolutely loves, I keep it super simple and visibly see the improvement.
First Silk press Dec 2020 ( Random Instagram hairstylist in ATL)
This was the first time since my hair tragedy in 2013 I went to a hairdresser and got a trim. As you can see my hair needed some more work. I was "protective styling" 24/7 from 2013-2020 and not really caring for my hair correctly. Washing it about every 4-6 weeks. Using random products without paying attention to whether my hair liked it or not. And this continued into until October 2021.
Second Silk press October 2021( My new and only hairdresser)
I was shocked at the state of my hair. The ends, how dry it was I thought I was doing a decent job. But really I wasn't catering to my hair porosity and my hair lacked proper moisture. I spoke to my hairdresser about hair care. We discussed a lot of what I already knew but wasn't implementing. So that's when I decided on intentional hair care. Which consisted of washing my hair every 7-10 days ,using products my hair liked( I tried a couple before settling), focused on water based leave ins and switched to using jojoba oil instead of castor oil and I did not wear any extensions not even braids. My protection styling was just my natural hair twisted.
Third Silk press Dec 2021 (Intentional Hair care)
I have low porosity med/Fine density hair. So got new products for my hair type. Focused on water based leave in conditioners for better absorption. No longer using heavy oils only light oils (Jojoba).

Rinse with Luke warm water and final rinse with cold water
Then I immediately moisturize my hair in its damp state and air dry in braids or twist.
This routine takes me 1.5-2 hours
My Moisturizing hair routine
While in the shower I part my hair in 5 sections ( trying to get rid of my middle part issue)

I braid each section as I go and wear it in a low bun for the week. I wear a braid out if I have somewhere to go.
